Partners Russ Herman, Steven Lane and Leonard Davis have been selected by their peers for inclusion in the 2011 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, which is considered one of the leading guides for legal excellence in the country. The three are among 2,611 lawyers across 216 geographic locations named to this year's list.
Selection to Best Lawyers is based on a confidential, peer-review survey comprised of more than 3.1 million evaluations by the top attorneys in the country. Attorneys are nominated in three ways, first with all attorneys from the previous year's edition being automatically nominated for the next edition. The second phase is a voting process, during which the evaluating attorneys are asked to nominate any outstanding lawyers who have not yet been nominated. Finally, firms are able to nominate attorneys from within their own firm, and are encouraged to be very selective in their process to keep the process fair and honest.
Each attorney selected is named for a particular practice area in which they specialize. HHK&C's Russ Herman, who has been named to the Best Lawyers list each year since 1983, was recognized this year for his work in the fields of Admirality and Maritime Law, Appellate Practice, Mass Tort Litigation and Personal Injury Litigation - Plaintiffs.
Steven Lane, who has been recognized each year since 2005, was named for his excellence in Family Law, and Leonard Davis, first named last year, was chosen for his work in Commercial Litigation, Mass Tort Litigation, Construction and Environmental Litigation.
The 2011 issue is the magazine's 17th edition. Best Lawyers' goal, for more than a quarter of a century, is to help lawyers and clients find legal counsel in unfamiliar jurisdictions or unfamiliar practice areas.
