Sidney A. Cotlar is a senior partner of Herman, Herman, Katz & Cotlar, L.L.P., as well as the national firm of HERMAN GEREL,
LLP, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. After receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree (psychology major) from Tulane University in 1965, Mr. Cotlar attended Louisiana
State University Law School and graduated from Loyola University School of Law in 1968, where he received the American Jurisprudence Award for federal jurisdiction.
Mr. Cotlar served in the U.S. Army Reserve on active duty from 1969 to 1970 as a Medical Service Corps officer at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and in Vietnam, where
he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in December 1970, and has practiced law continuously at HHK&C since
that time. His areas of practice include a general civil practice with emphasis on commercial and business law and litigation, collections, bankruptcy and real
estate, including timeshare projects. Mr. Cotlar has had an active role in various Class Actions involving forced placed insurance and Multi-District Litigation
in federal courts. Mr. Cotlar is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Louisiana Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for
the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana. Mr. Cotlar is a member of the
Louisiana State Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Louisiana Association for Justice.
